POLAND 1 - 12 December 2008 Poland hosts key 14th COP on climate change

The 14th Conference of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol is the last COP before the all-important 15th in Copenhagen at the end of 2009. The goal of COP 15 is a treaty to replace the 1997 Kyoto regime, which expires in 2012. COP 14 will be expected to bring the 187 countries that signed the Bali "roadmap" into line so negotiations for the post-2012 protocol can be concluded in Copenhagen. Disputes over the terms of the pact persist despite dire warnings about the impact of climate change.
