THE HAGUE 30-31 October 2008 International Criminal Court picks winner of design competition for ICC premises

The International Criminal Court's worldwide architectural design competition for its new ICC’s premises at The Hague gathers pace in 2008, five years after the inauguration of its temporary headquarters, and three entries will be chosen on 30-31 Oct 2008 from 20 finalists selected on 16 May. The ICC hopes to leave its current cramped temporary housing in 2014.

The new premises will be built on a site covering over 72,000 m², bordering the North Sea dunes and The Hague.

The first prize is € 60.000 (US $88,000).

The ICC and the The Netherlands say the new purpose built premises should provide suitable working conditions, functionality and security, while fulfilling an ecological remit. Long-term flexibility will be a prime design focus.

The competition is organised by the Chief Government Architect of The Netherlands. Feb/08
